dean of students
we got an email from the dean today titled “Halloween Message”
—-
Dear Friend,
There is plenty of cause to celebrate, especially this weekend. You just completed a round of exams and projects; you’ve got a chance to catch up with friends before next month’s break; and, there is a variety of creative Halloween and Dia del Muerte celebrations throughout this City.
We ‘re writing to you as a pitch with a simple message: have a great time this weekend, but be smart and stay safe. In the midst of all the ways you’ll get together with others, continue to keep your personal safety as your highest priority.
You know of the often-mentioned precautions and planning you should consider prior to going to social gatherings – we hope you’ll give them another look. Throughout this weekend, you’ll make decisions about drinking alcohol. We ask you to make reasonable decisions for yourself and to act in a way that is responsible: actions that preserve your personal integrity; decisions that keep you out of danger; ensure that you do not interfere with others; and, make sure you don’t do anything that causes others to be concerned about your health and wellbeing. And, if you are a generous host, in addition to planning entertainment, we ask you to keep your gathering within the bounds of decency and the law, and to do the right and responsible thing by looking after your guests (especially if they are other BU students).
We sincerely hope to get through this week without any BU students being hospitalized after drinking too much alcohol or being injured at social gatherings. We appreciate you taking a few moments to think about our message: stay smart; have a great time; look after yourself and your friends; and be safe.
All the best,
Kenneth Elmore
